2011 Annual Conference

Munro and Beyond

Signs of Safety Framework

The LSCB Annual Conference was held on Thursday 17 November 2011 at Swindon Town Football Club.

163 participants and 20 helpers, from a wide range of agencies across Swindon and beyond, attended the conference.

The two keynote speakers were Barry Raynes, Chief Executive from Reconstruct and Viv Hogg, Independent Trainer.

Barry spoke about the recent Munro Review of Child Protection and linked this into Serious Case Reviews and the importance of listening to children and young people.

Viv’s presentation was about Signs of Safety, which is a solution and safety oriented approach to child protection casework currently being trialled here in Swindon.

Jo Ratcliffe, Practice Development Manager, Swindon Borough Council explained where we are with Signs of Safety in Swindon.

Young people from ChurchfieldsAcademy gave a performance which emphasised the importance of listening to all children and young people.

There were also four carousels – Changing our Work Practice, Advocacy, Family Group Conferences and Signs of Safety.

Stands were operated by Swindon LSCB, the Life Project, Swindon Advocacy Movement, Voice, and the Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Initial feedback has been very positive, including comments such as “What a fantastic day”, “Best ever LSCB conference” and “The keynote speakers and young people from Churchfields were brilliant”.
