Phasing Out of the Child Protection Register from 1 April 2008: Child Protection Plans
With the publication of Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government 2006) the Government signalled that the maintaining of a separate Child Protection Register would be phased out by 1 April 2008. In effect this will mean that all the functionality of the Register will be replaced by the Integrated Children’s System and, more specifically, the existence of a Child Protection Plan. At the time these changes come in effect each child whose name is on the register will be the subject of a Child Protection Plan (see paragraphs 5.93 – 5.100 in Working Together), new cases which would have been added to the register would still become the subject of a Child Protection Plan and cases which are de-registered will have their Child Protection Plans end.
