Well over 100 multi-agency professionals from a wide range of Swindon organisations attended our recent Partnership Day to find out about safeguarding initiatives and issues in Swindon.

Delegates heard feedback from children and young people about safeguarding before rotating through a series of ‘sharp, snappy, memorable’ carousel presentations on

  • Children & Young People Who Exhibit Sexually Harmful Behaviour: Assessment and Intervention (AIM)
  • The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children
  • The New Child Death Review Process
  • Sexual Health and Safeguarding

Another highlight of the day was the unveiling of artwork created by young people for the Child Protection Conference room (see the article below).

Demand for places at the event had been overwhelming and the response to it was just as positive, with requests for more of the same.

NEWS RELEASE

LSCB showcases teenagers' artwork at event

Conference Room Paintings

Colourful artwork produced by teenagers working with Swindon’s Youth Offending Team (YOT) will be unveiled tomorrow (October 30).

Huge canvasses featuring swirls of colour in acrylic paint will be displayed at a Partnership Day organised by Swindon Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB).

The artwork has been produced over an 18-month period as part of a project for young people who have committed offences in the community.

YOT volunteer and artist Claire Gibbs, who helped the teenagers, said: “This has been a memorable and fun project which has really benefited the young people involved. It helped them develop commitment and respect for each other, and it gave them a sense of achievement and self-worth. The project truly brought out the best in all of the contributors and I hope they can take these new skills forward in a positive manner.”

The canvasses will eventually be displayed in the conference room at Swindon Borough Council’s Clarence House, in Euclid Street that is often used by agencies for meetings with children and families across the borough.

The Partnership Day, which will give the agencies a first glimpse of the artwork, will be attended by over 50 organisations, including the emergency and health services, Sure Start and children’s charities.

There will also be four workshops covering safeguarding issues relating to children and young people who exhibit sexually harmful behaviour, the effects of domestic violence on children, the new child death review process and sexual health.

In addition, the LSCB will be providing stands and displays about other safeguarding related organisations and topics.
