New Vetting & Barring Scheme

In response to recommendation 19 of the Bichard Inquiry Report, the government is planning to introduce a new vetting and barring scheme for people whose jobs bring them into contact with children and vulnerable adults. This is subject to Parliament approving the necessary legislation under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Bill.

The new vetting and barring scheme makes safeguarding a top priority. It aims to minimise the risk of children and vulnerable adults suffering harm at the hands of those employed to work with them.

A detailed article on the Every Child Matters web site outlines the provisions of the bill, explaining how the scheme will work.  There is also a link to a helpful Policy Briefing Pack (PowerPoint).
