AFRUCA - Africans Unite Against Child Abuse was established in May 2001 in the aftermath of the deaths of children like Jude Akapa, Victoria Climbie and Damilola Taylor in the UK. The organisation was set up as a platform for advocating for the welfare of African children.
Churches Child Protection Advisory Service The Churches’ Child Protection Advisory Service has produced ‘Kids are Safe Here’ a short DVD in English, French and Welsh. It is designed to inform members of congregations and visitors about policy and procedures, the role of the safeguarding co-ordinator and how everyone can play their part to ensure that children and vulnerable adults are safe. Versions in different formats can be put on web sites and posters help to personalise all on the disc. The DVD can be viewed on the CCPAS website. It is £10 plus p&p and free to members.
The CCPAS is also producing some of its standard publications in French, including ‘Safe and Secure’ which gives a basic introduction to child protection. It covers topics such as the nature of abuse, signs and symptoms and how to respond to concerns or allegations. (articles and downloads)
