Youth Offending Team (YOT)

The YOT is responsible for the supervision of children and young people subject to pre-court interventions and statutory disposals.

Given the YOT's inter-agency membership, the YOT is well placed to identify those children and young people known to relevant organisations as being most at risk of offending and to undertake work to prevent them offending. The YOT's interventions also aim to address the complex risk factors of a number supervised children and young people who are also children in need, some of whose needs will require safeguarding.

It is necessary, therefore, for there to be clear links between youth justice and child protection services both at a strategic and child specific operational level. YOT's have a duty to make arrangements to ensure that their functions are discharged having regard to the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
